Currently in preproduction phases is a series of brief scenes from the Jon Laskin/Michael Aquilante translation of Dario Fo’s hilarious farce They Don’t Pay? We Won’t Pay! The play follows the misadventures of a pair of housewives who start a neighborhood revolt against soaring food prices by taking matters into their own hands, and so to speak. We have some wonderful and zany actors lined up, who have worked with us on other projects and have demonstrated their willingness to, as Tina Turner sang, “Do It Rough!”
These tiny movies will be staged in open environments such as parks, restaurants, subway stations. Using tiny cameras, they will be shot to appear as though someone caught the action live on a SmartPhone. We want to take theatre off the stage, put it on the streets, and make it feel real.
